MUNICH, Germany Vistec Semiconductor, the former Leica Microsystems GmbH, will move its entire German activities from Wetzlar to Weilburg.
In Weilburg, the company which was acquired last year by private equity investor Golden Gate Capital and then rebaptized Vistec, runs a production plant with presently about 80 employees. In order to tighten internal process flows, now also the 150 workers in marketing, administration and R&D move from present company headquarters in Wetzlar to Weilburg, a distance of some 30 kilometers.
There, the manufacturer of equipment for semiconductor production process control, has invested more than 5 million ($6.6 million) in enlarging its cleanroom to 1700 square meters. Also, the company has installed a 250 square meters product demo cleanroom. The entire plant now sports an area of 12.200 square meters.
The relocation will be completed by end of January, the company said. The move is not connected with any job cuts. In contrast, the company had to hire several workers, because it cannot use anymore several facilities of the former headquarters.
The relocation follows a similar move from July, when Vistec concentrated its U.S. activities in a new branch office in the Silicon Valley
