LONDON Following a move by Apple to invest $5 million in graphics cores licensor Imagination Technologies Group plc (Kings Langley, England) Intel Corp. has topped up its shareholding in Imagination to a similar level.
Through its wholly owned subsidiary Intel Capital Corp. Intel has acquired a further 934,422 shares, which when added to an original holding of 6 million shares represents 3.04 percent of Imagination's total issued voting rights. Intel said it has no current intention to make an offer for Imagination.
Imagination is believed to have granted Apple a multi-year, multi-use license for its PowerVR graphics core. This is after it had already succeeded in getting its PowerVR MBX core designed into the Apple iPhone.
