LONDON Nokia has clarified the timescales involved in its work relating to an energy harvesting handset that its researchers are developing.
The Finnish mobile phone maker stresses that it does not, yet, have a prototype as was suggested in our and several other published articles.
A statement from Nokia says: "Media reports have incorrectly stated that Nokia has a prototype device which can power itself from ambient electromagnetic energy and have quoted an NRC (Nokia Research Centre) researcher as suggesting that devices may be powered by such technology in future."
The statement confirms that "energy harvesting is an interesting research area which Nokia Research Centre is actively pursuing, suggestions of this technology featuring in future products are premature."
"It is our policy not to speculate on when or whether research projects may become part of our portfolio," the statement adds.
