BERLIN Intel Corp's Chairman Craig Barrett will urge top Kremlin officials at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum to liberalize frequencies for WiMax, according to an interview Barrett gave to RIA Novosti.
At the St Petersburg Forum, held June 6-8, CEOs of multinational companies are slated to have a boardroom discussion with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and other government officials.
Last year, Intel and Russian telecom company Comstar, part of the Sistema Group, agreed to co-develop WiMAX in Russia. The joint effort targets a city-wide mobile WiMAX network in Moscow, but government allocation of frequencies has been an obstacle to implementation, Barrett said.
If negotiations are successful, Intel hopes to launch a WiMax network in Russia by the end of the year.
