Embedded engineers prefer Linux OS, says poll
|

LONDON About half the embedded systems engineers that read EE Times Europe, are planning to use Linux as an embedded operating system, according to respondents to a poll.
Some 49 percent of the respondents to the poll, conducted over October and November, said they were planning to use Linux for a future embedded operating system; 15 percent said they planned to use a commercial operating system, and 14 percent said they would use an operating system developed in-house.
This leaves 22 percent of embedded engineers whose projects don't require an operating system, real-time or otherwise. according to the poll. The vote is a "straw poll" with a self-selecting audience.
The next poll asks readers to consider what sort of holiday buying season we are heading towards. Readers can vote in the left-hand column of the EE Times Europe home page.

Memory to rise to 3-D challenges
The semiconductor memory industry is about to experience major technological changes as three-dimensional multi-gate structures push transistors and memory architectures forward, according to a one-day memory workshop held last month in Grenoble, France, by leading researchers from around the world.

Startup rewrites NXP's legacy in 3D passive integration
Economic crises can have positive as well as negative impacts. Thus, if NXP had not divested its wireless business and decided to sell its integrated passives device unit near Caen, Normandy (France), Ipdia would not have emerged with an ambition to deliver next-generation 3D-SiP modules for various applications, including advanced LED modules.

Principes d'un convertisseur analogique-numérique (CAN)
