CDT licensee to build P-OLED plant
MANHASSET, N.Y. MicroEmissive Displays, a licensee of U.K.-based Cambridge Display Technology, has raised over $9 million and plans to ramp up a plant to mass produce polymer light emitting diode (P-OLED) microdisplay products.
MicroEmissive (Edinburgh, Scotland) expects the plant, to be located in Dresden, Germany, to be online in 2007. The plant will be capable of producing ten million units per annum, with shipments to begin the second quarter of 2007.
"We are delighted to see MicroEmissive Displays moving to full commercial production with their excellent low power requirement microdisplay products," said David Fyfe, CDT chief executive, in a statement. "We believe there is a large potential market for P-OLED displays which can show full motion video, and MED's eyescreen product is ideal for the wearable headset market segment."
