Qimonda launches DDR366 Mobile RAM
MUNICH, Germany DRAM manufacturer Qimonda announced what it claims to be the industry's first 183MHz double-data rate synchronous Mobile RAM (DDR366). The technology is set to meet the growing bandwidth demand of mobile phone and portable applications while at the same reducing power demand.
Designers of mobile handsets, music players, digital cameras and similar devices typically require very low power consumption along with compact chip-scale packaging. According to Qimonda manager Thomas Seifert, the new offering is targeting this market.
Qimonda's new 512-MBit chip complies with the JEDEC DDR standard and is said to offer a 30 percent higher data rate, compared to present DDR266 DRAM offers. The device comes in a conventional 60-ball FPGA package, requiring no change in system design, the company said. The chip is presently available as engineering sample.
