Intel opens Israeli multiprocessor laboratory

NETANYA, Israel Intel Corp. has announced the opening in of a multicore processor technology laboratory in Haifa, Israel. The laboratory is to develop and run tests to allow independent software vendors (ISVs) to benchmark their applications on the Intel processors.
The announcement was made at the Intel Developer Forum held in Tel-Aviv, Israel, on Monday (Oct. 30). IDF Israel attracted about 1,500 visitors and included 30 speakers from Intel and other companies.
At the event Intel also demonstrated the use of its processors for graphical processing for the film industry. According to the presentations, film can be completely replaced by direct capture to disk with the processing at each stage done with Intel architecture platforms.

Survey: weak dollar set to drive 15,000 technology-based job cuts in Israel
If the dollar exchange rate against the New Israeli Shekel (NIS) remains at current levels, around 4,500 technology-based jobs will be cut in 2008, alongside 11,000 additional jobs for those indirectly employed by the technology industry in Israel, according to a survey conducted by Israeli Association of Electronics and Software Industries.
